How to get a library card-

You will need the following:
· Northfield and Rice County residents need a photo ID and proof of residency
(Minnesota driver’s license, a bill, check etc.)
· Carleton & St. Olaf students with college ID
· Children under 14 may register for library cards with a parent or guardian’s signature.
· Out-of-state, short-term visitors with ID who pay a refundable $10 deposit.
· Out-of-state, long-term users with ID who pay a $40 per year fee in lieu of taxes.

Your first card is free. There is a $2.00 fee to replace a lost card.

Volunteer Opportunities at the Library

Adult Volunteer Opportunities

Adopt-a-Shelf
Keep materials in order on library shelves. This can be as extensive as you would like. You can oversee a shelf or section on a regular basis.

Home Bound Delivery
Deliver materials to those who are unable to travel to the library. This might entail selecting materials of interest to the reader and exchanging them for the items that are ready to return.

Gardening Inside & Out
Assist staff in keeping the library plants and grounds maintained by raking, pruning, watering, planting etc.

Library Board
A monthly commitment to serve the community and the library. Advise the library director and the council on library issues. Council appoints for 3 year term.

Assist on Booker
Bring early literacy experiences to children by helping with check in/out and shelving.

Satellite Collections
Deliver 30 or so items to our senior living facilities every 6 weeks. This includes selecting materials, and exchanging them for the items that have been there for 6 weeks.

Join the Friends of the Library! www.northfieldlibraryfriends.org/home/ they help the library in many, many ways!

Kids & Young Adult Opportunities

Library Page Summer Reading Program
For kids who will finish 5th grade and up. Beginning in April volunteers are assisting in the preparation of the Summer Reading Program then helping during the summer.

TAB the Teen Advisory Board
A monthly commitment to serve the library by helping select materials for the YA collection.

You can help introduce children to basic concepts they need to be ready to read.

Adventure Girls have fun!

Members of ADVENTURE GIRLS BOOK GROUP have fun at their November 7th meeting. They are reading A Girl Named Disaster and enjoying time with St. Olaf honor house members! Adventure Girls meet every Tuesday night at 7 pm. New members are always welcome! This program is made possible by a grant from the Northfield Healthy Community Initative.

Biography Resource Center
Need information about someone famous? This is a large database of biographical information on more than 165,000 people from throughout history and around the world. Includes authors, sport standouts, politicians and movie stars.

EBSCO Novelist NoveList is a resource that helps you find fiction books may like to read. You can look up books by subject, author or title. There are reviews, summaries, and much more for over 125,000 fiction titles.
Click on NoveList and then you can open NoveList K-8.

Merlin Mondays create Wizard Staffs

Members of the group and leader Deb Clark had a fun time creating Wizard Walking Staffs.

Merlin Mondays is for boys age 9 and up.

They meet Monday evenings at 7 pm in the library.

New members are always welcome!

First Steps Early Literacy Center Hours at the library

First Steps is designed for children 18 months and up. It's a chance to play and learn! It features "hands-on" learning in a supervised setting. It is free!
