Start planning for the summer reading program

Get a Clue– investigate!

How to participate–
Pick up a “Get a Clue” folder at the library starting June 4. Inside are 25 dog prints, with a list of 31 reading investigations. As you complete an investigation, color in a dog print and bring it to the library for a special sticker. You can choose as many investigations as you want to do. For every 3 completed investigations you have earned a spot for the weekly “Get a Clue Lunch Bunch” on Thursdays. Remember to read books that challenge you and will prepare you for next fall’s school reading! Record what you have read (or what was read to you) on the lower portion of the folder be sure to include the corresponding number of the investigation you completed! Bring your folder with you for verification when you come to the library!
(Investigations can be done in any order!)

1. Read a fiction book featuring a dog.
2. Read a mystery book.
3. Read a book with a cowboy or cowgirl in it.
4. Read a non-fiction book about a sport you like.
5. Read a cookbook and make a recipe found in the book.
6. Read a non-fiction book about a wild animal.
7. Listen to a book on tape or CD.
8. Read a fiction book of your choice.
9. Read a non-fiction book about dogs.
10. Read a fiction book featuring a cat.
11. Read a book set in England.
12. Read a biography about a man.
13. Read a biography about a woman.
14. Read a book by a Minnesota author or illustrator!
15. Read a magazine of your choice.

Get a Clue Stories and Fun Times
June 12 through July 29 No library programs the week of the 4th of July.

This summer we will collect clues, nab suspects and solve mysteries.

Going into K 10 am Tuesdays
Infant Lapsit 11 am Tuesdays

1st thru 3rd grades 1 pm Tuesdays and 10 am Wednesdays

4th grade and up 1 pm Wednesdays

Pre-School 10 am Thursdays
Get a Clue Lunch Bunch 1 2-1:30 Thursdays
Special program for kids who have met 3 reading goals ! In June meet authors, illustrators and in July meet international students! Domino’s donates the lunch!
Thanks again to Northfield's Dominos for supporting children's reading programs at the library!

Kids can enter the READER of THE WEEK drawing by filling out a book slip for every book you read or is read to you. The completed slips are to be placed in the “Treasure Chest” at the library. One name will be drawn every Thursday afternoon and will be contacted and invited to come to the library for a special “Reader of the Week!” photo that will be submitted to the Northfield News and featured on the library’s website.

5 Challenge Magnifying Glasses!
Read any 5 of the Get a Clue Challenge Books for a special prize. The challenge books are available in the library’s meeting room
before and after programs. You must read the book then play the book report game with a Library Page. The Library Page will stamp a magnifier in your folder and give you the special prize.

2007 BOOKS & STARS SCHEDULE


Special Books & Stars 2007 kick off!
“Give Booker a Hand!”
Here is your chance to print your hand on the new Booker!
The fun starts at 5 pm on
The first show of the Books & Stars season is Wed. June 13 at Central Park.

Featuring JUSTIN ROBERTS! Our biggest show of the year!!!
Musical performance begins at 7 pm

You are invited to enjoy fun, free family entertainment at various parks all over Northfield! Booker, the Book Bus opens at 6 pm, the entertainment begins at 7 p.m. Booker has library materials for all ages. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and get ready for fun!

Wed. June 20 at Oddfellow’s Park 7 pm BOOKER opens at 6 pm
David Walbridge’s Big Fun Show -A one man circus of comedy juggling, magic and audience interaction. Wacky and creative, it combines many arts into one show!


Wed. June 27 at Amerman Pavilion Spring Creek Park Dedication celebration!

Special early start at 6 pm!
Magic of Amye Scharlau -A great magic show with plenty of audience participation and interaction!

Special kick-off to Northfield’s 4th of July Celebration!

Stories Alive! In this lively program of favorite stories, books come alive with our unique blend of storytelling. Filled with audience participation, puppets, props and magic, this program promotes literacy and reinforces the importance of reading for people of all ages.

Kid Power with Rachael Kroog
A fun filled show filled with music, puppets, comedy and juggling.

Library Pages went out "carding people!"







It's National Library Week! Do you have a library card? The Pages and library staff were out last week "carding" people. We asked people if they could produce a library card (from any library) we took their picture and gave them a specially marked box of Jr. Mints!

"Booker the first" was once just plain white just like Booker II is now.

That will all change Wed. June 13!

Library Pages Spring Training begins!


We had a GREAT turn out for the informational meeting. Four returning Pages came and five new interested 5th graders. We will be meeting Tuesdays & Thursdays 3-5 until the end of the school year. Even if you can't be part of spring training- you can still volunteer this summer!
