We had a full house for the History Player Maud Hart Lovelace!

Maud wrote a book set at Ft. Snelling during the early years of Minnesota featuring the fur trade,
she is holding a beaver pelt.
Maud saw the first car in Mankato the volunteers are dressed for their "motorcar ride"

The next Minnesota History player will be a teenage Civil War soldier Charley Goddard.  Saturday, Jan 18th at 11 am.

WOW! We hosted the "Magic of Model Trains!"

BIG thank you to all the volunteers who brought their trains in!
Over 1,700 people came to the library to see them.

Thanks also to the Friends & Foundation of the Library for supplying dinner for all the volunteers!

And once again the library staff came through "holding the fort" together during winter
walk and then putting it all
back in the right place for the next day of regular library business!

The Teen Advisory Board created this cool train with the expert help
 of Rachel & Naomi Meissler!

Our 2nd Minnesota History Player Harriet Bishop told us about the early days of public school teaching!

She came to St. Paul in 1847 and was the first public school teacher in St. Paul.  Her students spoke Ojibwe, French and a little English!

As a teacher she also had to teach her students how to clean and empty "chamber pots"

Women's underwear was a bit larger than it is today!  And many parts of their clothing tied on and were easily removed to be washed or repaired.

She took 7 modes of 1847 transportation to get to "Pigs Eye Landing" but luckily recently renamed St. Paul.

Girls and boys learned to sew.

The challenge for the LEGO CLUB was to build a flat design.

They had to use bases and could only build up a couple of tiles- look what they came up with!
