16TH ANNUAL CELEBRATION OF MINNESOTA CHILDREN’S AUTHORS AND ILLUSTRATORS
The Anderson Center, along with the Red Wing Public Library and Mackin Educational Resources, will once again host the Annual Celebration of Minnesota Children’s Authors and Illustrators on September 19 from 12:00 – 5:00 pm.
Marking its 16th year, the event features a stellar line-up of Minnesota’s finest, award-winning authors and illustrators, including recently retired Minnesota Supreme Court Justice and NFL Hall of Famer Alan Page. In his book, "Alan and His Perfectly Pointy, Impossibly Perpendicular Pinky," Page visits a grammar school class. A boy asks him: "What happened to your finger?" Page's left pinky is disfigured, jutting out at a 90-degree angle. He dislocated it during a game when he was a Minnesota Vikings defensive tackle. "The story is really a metaphor that we really do learn from each other and that even those children who sometimes seem to be doing things out of place -- it's not always a bad thing" says Page. In this heartwarming story by Alan and Kamie Page, with captivating artwork by David Geister, readers of all ages will delight in how one special boy finds something in common with a big man with an even bigger heart.
The day’s events all include book sales by Mackin Educational Resources, book signings and readings by authors, presentations and talks by illustrators, and bookmaking workshops for both children and parents.
Other features include storytelling sessions with the Wonder Weavers at the top of the Tower View water tower, peach basket basketball with John Coy and the Red Wing YMCA, workshops with the Minnesota Center for the Book Arts, music with Alphabits, and fun-filled family activities with Picture Window Books, Red Wing Arts Association, ArtReach, and many other local and regional organizations. Also appearing will be the ever-popular balloon-artists Barbara Jazee and David Olson, Minnesota marble champion Tom Fletcher, and stilts with Barebones Puppet Company.
Lunch, ice cream, and other refreshments will be available. This wonderful, one-of-a-kind event is free of charge and open to the public.
A special thanks to the local businesses and individuals who so generously help fund this event. For a complete listing of sponsors, visit our website http://andersoncenter.org/eventAuthorsIllustrators.html
