Italy- a Mosaic in Time at talk with Bill North
On Thursday evening, October 6, join Bill North as he
talks about the pleasures of exploring Italy's many layers of history. Like a
mosaic, Italian landscapes and cultures are composed of elements drawn from
many times and possessing many different qualities, and nowhere can this
mosaic-like quality be observed better than Rome and Sicily. Bill will share
images and perspectives accumulated over years of living, travelling, and
teaching in Italy with his wife Victoria. He will also offer some thoughts on
the practicalities of Italian travel and answer questions.

The Story:
Originally dedicated on May 7, 1932, the bronze plaque and a Washington Elm tree were a gift to the Northfield Carnegie Library given by Josiah Edson Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution. After the death of the tree, the plaque went into storage
and was lost.
Three Iowa women found it at a sale in Iowa and returned the plaque to the Josiah Edson Chapter. Today as we remember those whose work went before us, we rededicate the original plaque and dedicate a Patriot Elm with its own plaque.
