The new kid's computer is up and running at the Northfield Public Library. It combines durable, creative design, leading-edge technology and award-winning software. The Young Explorer computer is both child and parent friendly. The computer is available during library hours. Children will need a parent or an older sibling to assist them in playing the learning games. The games provide pre-reading skills reinforcement to challenge young minds, ages 3 – 7. The games allow the children to explore at their own pace, and enhance their learning through technology. The Library thanks to the efforts of Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation’s (SMIF) Early Childhood Initiative and IBM’s KidSmart Learning Project in making this equipment possible.
Here is the Library's Americorps READS member Gilly Wigley as she demonstrates the new Young Explorers computer to Jack Garvey and Dilly Etter.
